Settlement Workers in Schools

Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS) primarily provide school-based support to assist immigrant parents and their children integrate into the Canadian school system including interpretation during:

  • Parent-Teacher Meetings
  • Ready Set Learn Events
  • StrongStart Activities
  • Welcome to Kindergarten Sessions
  • School Registrations

The program also provides simplified information on services available, conduct orientation sessions on various areas of settlement in Canada, assist in filling out forms for services, referrals to extra-curricular activities, accompaniment to community resources, help in the adjustment and transition process, continuing education options, and cultural interpretation to schools.
