Youth Mentoring

Adapting to a new school can be hard for any child. Add to that adapting to a whole new country of residence, a new culture, and often, a new language and it becomes a very overwhelming task full of struggle and confusion. The Multicultural Buddy Club is a service that can help make this transition easier for children. By providing support to the newcomer, as well as support to her and his network of peers, the Buddy Club offers a chance for students to explore culture and diversity, and develop skills around inclusiveness.

Through use of hands-on activities, presentations, and group discussions, students are able to:

    • Interact in a meaningful way with one another
    • Make new connections and friendships
    • Deepen their understanding of inclusiveness
    • Gain tangible skills around cultural understanding and sensitivity

For newly immigrated students, the Multicultural Buddy Club provides a safe place that aids in:

    • The adaptation process
    • Building new links and friendships
    • Culture sharing, which assists in positive integration into the Canadian school system

All of SOICS’ services are free for eligible immigrants. For more information on becoming a SOICS client, please visit Getting Started at SOICS. To make an appointment, please call or visit one of our offices:
