Thursday, March 5th SOICS hosted its 1st Annual job fair in partnership with Open Door Group. Approximately sixty job seekers came into the SOICS office and met with five employers representing a wide range of jobs, focused primarily on tourism and hospitality. Approximately half the visitors were newcomers. One successful job seeker said she was approached by two hotels for front desk positions.
SOICS clients worked with staff to update their resumes and obtain some interview skills prior to attending the job fair. Additionally, Corinne Janow, Community Connections Coordinator, mentored immigrant clients on interview attire and etiquette. We aimed to provide employers and job seekers with an opportunity to meet each spring before the tourism season ramps up. For next year we intend to expand the scope of the fair beyond tourism and hospitality.
